About

NeuroProsperity is a team

We have worked together for more than twenty years - beginning at a time when we shared a frustration over how hard it was for people to receive assessments and how little support there was for neurodivergent people. We have a joint passion for improving that situation.

The landscape has changed a lot in those twenty years. We are delighted that so many neurodivergent people have been able to share their knowledge and change the discussion around neurodiversity in the community. Our team includes neurodivergent people and all of us have a specialist qualification in autism.

We're also collaborating with a university to produce the first UK specialist qualification for assessment of autism. Our shared experiences have led us to some similar special interests in autism and we have collaborated together on producing psycho-educational resources.

We believe the most helpful thing for prospering as a neurodivergent individual is understanding your individual neurodivergence. It’s the foundation for thriving. It's what we believe our service can offer to you.

Tini is a neurodevelopmental specialist practitioner working in both the NHS and the private sector. She has worked for over twenty years with neurodivergent individuals across all ages, as well as their parents, carers and partners.

She is actively engaged in research and her focus is to give a voice to autistic adults. Tini is also involved in developing and teaching modules on the neurodevelopmental master’s programme at The New School of Psychotherapy and Counselling, affiliated with Middlesex University.

She has co-authored a book on autism and bullying and, working collaboratively with autistic adults, has developed a post-diagnostic self-reflection workbook.

Howard Childs

Neurodevelopmental specialist practitioner
BA, PGDip (Autism Adults)

Howard first worked with an autistic person in 1990 at a playscheme for children. Wondering what to do with a literature degree on leaving university he started working as a 'house parent' for autistic children at a residential school. In 1997 he started working for the NHS with an inspirational manager who instructed him to read Herb Lovett’s “learning to listen” and encouraged him to learn more about autism to help the team listen more.

Most of Howard’s early experience was with non-speaking autistic people who were great teachers. Since then, Howard has had a particular interest in diagnosis and in collaboration with autistic people, psycho-education and validation approaches. Howard has benefitted from collaborating with Tini and Ruth throughout his career. As well as being involved in diagnosis for 20 years Howard has had interests in helping neurodivergent people at risk of suicide, understanding trauma and minority stress for autistic people, and helping people apply strength-based approaches.

Howard has a post graduate diploma in autism (adults) and is presently undertaking a master’s degree in neuroscience.

Our story

Ruth, Howard and Tini first met each other 20 years ago when they were working to support adults in a day centre setting. Although they went separate ways for a time they continued to work together....

"One of us went off to work in a different county and that experience led us to realise there was no post-diagnostic support or any services for autistic adults.

We decided we had to do something about this and managed to get a locally-funded grant to support autistic adults. Since then we have provided support and have continued to develop our service whilst also developing our professional qualifications and experiences both in the NHS and outside of it.

We continue to be as passionate about our subject as we always have been - and we're a little wiser about running a business!"

What our students say about us

Thank you so, so much for all your support; this is a truly life-changing report.
Thanks for your support this year. You have provided me with a solid platform which I can build on.
I benefitted from and enjoyed our sessions. It makes me realise how great our sessions were. We used to problem solve the issues I faced with humour.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions

Why should I get a diagnosis?

A diagnosis is useful when you're trying to access services and support, such as education and employment. It helps you to understand yourself better in the context of neurodivergence and to make sense of your life and experiences.

The assessment experience can be a challenging process but, for many, it provides a sense of validation and confidence.

How can a diagnosis help me?

There is a saying: you don’t grow out of Autism; you grow into it.

This means we can support you to develop ways to look after yourself and use your strengths to develop compassion and confidence in being yourself.

What other services are there?

See resources page.

Where can I get good information about Autism?

See resources page.

How can you support me?

We offer time-limited pieces of support, such as virtual individual or group sessions. We believe the most helpful thing for prospering as a neurodivergent individual is understanding your individual neurodivergence. It’s the foundation for thriving and what we believe our service can offer you.
